Vasco: A 43-year-old woman rider died on spot after the two-wheeler she was riding was hit by a car driven by a minor, informed the Vasco police. The mishap occurred on Friday afternoon. As per police information, the car lost control and rammed into the two-wheeler, which was coming from the opposite direction, near the St. Anthony’s cross at St. Jacinto. The police disclosed the name of the deceased as Reena Fernandes. Her nephew, who was riding pillion, has suffered injuries.

 

It is learnt that Fernandes had picked up her nephew from college and both were returning home at Chicalim. Her nephew, who sustained injuries, was first taken to Chicalim Sub District Hospital and from there he was shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim for further treatment. Sources said that the boy is out danger. Locals, who gathered at the accident spot, expressed anger at the way the car was driven that resulted in the death of the woman.

 

The locals alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The police said that there were four occupants in the car, including two girls, and all in the age group of 17. The driver, who is minor in age, will be lodged in Apna Ghar, the police said. A case under sections 279, 338 and 304 (A) has been registered and further investigation is being carried out by the Vasco police.
