St João Festival Celebrated With Great Enthusiasm In Reading, England By Goans
Reading: Goans living in Reading, in England set out yesterday to celebrate the feast of St. John the Baptist, with great enthusiasm and pomp. Such a celebration which was unheard from Goans in Reading, was seen as a beautiful and successful celebration in the community hall. The function of the festival was attended by a huge crowd of Goans from Reading, and lots of them poured in from other parts of Goa. This function was organised by the GOAN COMMUNITY READING.

Right in the beginning at the entrance, were kept in trays full of small COPINA (kalsini bhorun) filled with UR’RAK and everybody took in one copin, drained it down their throats and entered the hall. The function started with a procession, which entered with a boat of fruits and drinks followed by all who entered the hall in two lines to the sound of music.

The greatest feature was a PONNOS (jackfruit), whole one was brought from Goa by aeroplane and finally auctioned for £70 taken away by one of the attendees. The function was beautiful and with great vigour.

Brass band was there playing at the entrance and the song of St. João was played during the entry. There was DJ, Brass Band and a one-man singer who performed very beautifully at the festival function.

The dance began at a tremendous pace and was joined by the crowd which will soon be seen in the video coverage done by Niz Goenkar website team and will be up shortly.

There was a competition of KOPELAM (flower crowns) and the winners were given the prizes straight away. The newly wedded couples followed this and the couples engaged who too were given away the prizes. There was bumper prize kept for the lotteries that was also won by a woman attendee and indeed, it was a huge bumper prize.

The dance continued throughout the evening and late the food buffet was served with most delicious Goan food. Rice and Curry were served in the earthen pots TOULI and BUDDKULE with coconut shell DOULE (spoons). Prawns curry with lady’s fingers, Ukdde (boiled) Rice, dry black chonne (peas), gherkins pickle, fried para (peixe tamarind – pickled dry mackarels and various Goan Dishes only.

However, the dance continued after the buffet, the crowd started leaving, a very happy crowd who enjoyed to the fullest. After Ur’rak was once again served inside the hall to everybody as a courtesy from the organising committee that ended a successful function. The committee members worked hard and unitedly to organise such a successful event. A grand occasion

Goans now have to find peace and happiness in other countries thanks to the Proud Indian Goans of Goa. With the hate filled vitriol coming from the Goa under a communal CM, who covers it well, fooling our christian minority - traitorous fools! (He gave Mathany the kiss of death after he got his use from him. They did him a good Last Supper. His building that bears his name will soon be changed to a Maharashtra hero. lol). it will not surprise me if we see another massacre of hindus and muslims as things are boiling over after the Muslim youth was killed on a train. I hope our Proud Indian Goans will join in this fight. That sadly missed out on the last one as Goa was not part of India then. Modi was hugging Trump to infuriate Pakistan and make it seem the US is on the side of India. The US is not stupid they will do what is in their best interest. Every world leader shakes hands as it is the respectable thing to do. Some day i would like to travel to the temple in Gujarat and worship the 10,000 dollar british suit of Modi's. I think the Proud Indian Goans should make it their mission too!
