In a very strange argument Rajendra Arlekar who was the Speaker of the Goa Assembly for the last over three years has claimed that he needed to be a Minister to ensure development of his Pernem Constituency. Is he implying that being a ruling MLA and holding the high office of Speaker he was unable to nurse his constituency which incidentally is neighbouring Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s Mandrem constituency

A Bengali friend of mine who owns a chain of restaurants in Japan said to me recently: Goa is not India! I was startled to hear his comment but later understood fully what he was trying to communicate to me: Goa is a liberal place! And, it sure is
The Peoples Verdict by Nixon Fernandes
Friday - Oct 30, 2015
The people of 11 Municipalities of Goa have given their verdict to their respective candidates by emerging them victorious in their respective wards and this small victory will achieve greater results in the coming assembly elections of 2017. The BJP can pat its back for the time being as it managed to secure a slender lead in 6 of the 11 municipalities, but deep down it has to do some soul searching especially as Mr. Vijay Sardessai emerged victories in his mission of Fatorda Forward, as 11 of his 12 candidates won, great victory indeed.

The trend is clear people of Goa has rejected all those non performing councillors and voted for new faces in some places and have posed their faith in them, indeed it’s a very good sign as this will also help them to choose between a new clean and honest candidate for the upcoming assembly elections and to reject those non performing, corrupt and communal candidate.

The BJP is pushing the envelope of MOPA very hard it wants to kick start MOPA ASAP, looks like the govt. is in a hurry and wants to complete at least 75% of the entire project before

The jet fighter training and the MIG 29K training are the chief reason for the time slot block at Dabolim / INS Hansa. Here's a few interesting articles on the Navy's plans: 1. Anyone who's been to Dabolim recently would have noticed that at peak times, there is a shortage of apron space for airplane parking. There is also a desperate

The concern if at all ought to be whether there are "good journalists," as opposed to "good writers" and those who write well. Although a journalist writes, there is a difference between the two forms, which further get divided. Writing, does not make anyone a writer in the sense of say, a Jose Saramago! Some journalists have great skills/ are superlative, but the operative word is some
Independent Journalism; I Am My Own Paper by Stephen Dias, Dona Paula

Everyone knows that many reporters are fed up with certain Editors in Goa, but continue to work with these publications because they have to earn their living. Herald reporters are on the verge of leaving and many have left. The same scenario is seen less in Times of India and Navhind Times. That shows that there is some Salazar rule in journalism and corruption. Once these people leave, they join other

Mr CM, Time To Walk The Talk by Aires Rodrigues

This is Vigilance Week and while Goa has been conveniently kept without the promised Lokayukta, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has been only sermonizing on the need of uprooting Corruption. It is time the Chief Minister first gets his own Ministers and MLAs, some of whom are awfully corrupt to take the pledge. May be he should also give an earful to the likes of his own brother-in-law
