Carnival Parade And Samba Square At Panjim 2016 – by Stephen Dias, Dona Paula
Saturday - Feb 6, 2016
The traditional Carnaval in Goa has been increasingly corrupted year by year. Political and other considerations have impacted it over the years. This year the organizers have been troubled and indecisive about the plans apparently due to the internal disputes between and within the Tourism Department and CCP on various styles of presentation of floats such as dress code, vulgarity
It’s Like Killing A Child – by Claude Alvares
Saturday - Feb 6, 2016
Goa government offers a half-baked explanation for the removal of the coconut tree from the ambit of the Preservation of Trees Act. Figures show that in any given year, some 40-50 coconut trees were allowed to be felled under the act. There are not that many ways to stun the world, but the Goa government succeeded in doing precisely that last week. To the consternation

Am ready to even face a CBI probe into the false and malicious complaint filed against me by the notorious Colva Panch Calvert Gonsalves under the guidance of Adv. Rajeev Gomes and in collusion with Padmashree Remo Fernandes. Would welcome any probe even by the CBI so that the false, frivolous and mischievous complaint filed with fabricated documents is exposed at the earliest
This Is How Goa Is Being Destroyed – by Claude Alvares
Saturday - Feb 6, 2016
The naturally well-endowed state of Goa occupies less than 1% of India's landmass. Yet, the charm of the place and the hospitable nature of its local inhabitants now draw some 3-4 million people to enjoy its sheer beauty. Nothing of that awesome handsomeness has been constructed by any government. Almost all of it has come from the labours of a community expert in the maintenance

2016 Guide To Shock Observers - by João Barros-Pereira
Wednesday - Feb 3, 2016
Goa's monsoon season is the time for shocks. Electric shocks, that is. When linesmen get electrocuted and die. Sad, indeed. However, in 2016 shocks have visited us early. A variety of shocks. One after another. The latest shock if we are to believe media reports is the government is going to introduce a dress code for the carnival parade. But, wait, a second. How is this possible?
Why To Vote For BJB? - by A. Veronica Fernandes, Candolim
Sunday - Jan 31, 2016
Some of my best friends are in the BJP camp and one of them a current MLA asked me, whom I will support in the coming election. When I said definitely not for your party, he questioned me, “why?”. Then I asked him why should I support BJP and you in particular when you voted in the Assembly in demoting the mighty Coconut Tree? Besides, I told him that your party has gone against all the promises giveninful Casinos are not evicted from Goa? Why minorities are psychologically disturbed with a feeling that they are
Census Book Shows Wrong Names Of Voters – by Stephen Dias, Dona Paula
Monday - Jan 25, 2016
CCP election is round the corner but the names in the census book shows wrong spellings. This I am categorically saying because there are lots of discrepancies in the earlier finalized book. Election Commissioner will not be able to set it right as the election formalities in the department is almost completed and that these studies are done too late. This was disclosed by their own staff member of their census itself, who came to my house to get the names corrected for revision of census book that the Collectorate, Mamladar and the Goa State Election Commission are adamant as they protect their own old staff who printed wrong names.
