CALANGUTE: The Animal Rescue Squad (ARS) and Calangute Police on Friday rescued 35 bulls that were reportedly headed to an illegal slaughter house at Gauravaddo, Calangute. According to sources, the ARS team led by John Fernandes, Amrut Singh, Vinayak Ambroskar and Govind Natekar were informed that a truck carrying bulls for slaughter was proceeding to an undisclosed location.

MARGAO: In an unprecedented action, officials of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) recalled an entire consignment of ‘pao’ (bread) supplied by a self-help group for mid-day meal scheme after the bakery was found working in an unhygienic condition. Sources said the decision created a shortage of bread for the mid-day meal, forcing the SHG to tide over by providing slice bread.

PANJIM: The home department on Monday ordered the release of 11 murder convicts, whose release the state sentence review board had recommended in November last year. One of the conditions for the release was that the prisoners had completed 14 years in prison.
