CORGAO: Twenty students of the Shree Kamleshwar High School at Deulvaddo, Corgao, in Pernem taluka, fell sick after consuming the midday meal on Saturday. Doctors at the Tuem primary health centre, where the children were treated, said the Class V and VI students, aged between 11 and 12 years, were sent home after treatment.

CALANGUTE: The Animal Rescue Squad (ARS) and Calangute Police on Friday rescued 35 bulls that were reportedly headed to an illegal slaughter house at Gauravaddo, Calangute. According to sources, the ARS team led by John Fernandes, Amrut Singh, Vinayak Ambroskar and Govind Natekar were informed that a truck carrying bulls for slaughter was proceeding to an undisclosed location.

MARGAO: In an unprecedented action, officials of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) recalled an entire consignment of ‘pao’ (bread) supplied by a self-help group for mid-day meal scheme after the bakery was found working in an unhygienic condition. Sources said the decision created a shortage of bread for the mid-day meal, forcing the SHG to tide over by providing slice bread.
