PANJIM: Stray cattle ambling or squatting on the streets in Sancoale, Margao and Curchorem areas of South Goa were the first to be taken to the government farm at Calay as a private party engaged by the Corporation of the City of Panjim kicked off the scheme recently. "A total of 58 cattle, including 28 bulls and 30 cows were impounded within a fortnight in June 2013," a CCP source said.

PONDA: A 34-year-old man from Mardol was arrested on Sunday afternoon for allegedly molesting a 38-year-old woman from Marcela. The woman had lodged a complaint with Ponda police about the crime. Police arrested the alleged accused Amar Prabhu, who was then remanded by the Ponda JMFC to police custody for one day.

PANJIM: By January, wheat and rice allotted to Goa will drop by around 55 per cent under the new Food Security Act. The state will end up losing some 35,000 tonnes of grains as the universal coverage to its people under the public distribution scheme will change to cover only 38 per cent of the population. As of now the state together receives around 65,000 tonnes of rice and wheat.
