GOA PANCHAS AND THE LAW by Joao Barros-Pereira
Tuesday - Jul 30, 2013
As an overseas Goan I was more than happy to read the news pertaining to Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim gram sabha meeting where the villagers spoke strongly against the proposed construction of commercial and multi-dwelling units. Further, the report informs us, the villagers who are well educated impressed
CM PARRIKAR SAYS SPECIAL STATUS FOR GOA, BUT WELCOMES ONE MORE MIGRANT by Adv. Aires Rodrigues
Tuesday - Jul 30, 2013
Today Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar stands totally exposed on his so called hoax mantra of Special Status for Goa by having gone out of the way to usher in another migrant Leena Mehandale as the Chief Information Commissioner of Goa. Her selection was a foregone conclusion and that mere formality by the Selection committee today was a sheer farce.
NEPOTISM BY CHIEF MINISTER MANOHAR PARRIKAR by Adv. Aires Rodrigues
Monday - Jul 29, 2013
The Goa Government has decided to raise the retirement age of doctors at Goa Medical College from 62 to 65. One of the first beneficiary of this kind gesture by the Goa Government will be my friend of many years, the Professor of Radiology Dr. Mahesh Sardesai who was due to retire in February 2014. Dr Mahesh Sardesai is the father-in-law of Chief Minister’s elder son Utpal Parrikar.
SACRIFICES OF EXPATRIATES IN KUWAIT by A. Veronica Fernandes, Kuwait
Monday - Jul 29, 2013
Do all the expatriates make good money by working in Kuwait? The answer is a big NO. All expatriates are earning money is a sure fact but not all are earning to live a reasonably good life. Then how all of them send reasonable remittances to their home countries to have a reasonable saving and reasonable standard of living for their dependents back at their home countries?
LEENA MEHENDALE NOT A VIABLE CONTENDOR FOR POST OF CIC by Adv. Aires Rodrigues
Monday - Jul 29, 2013
The Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) holds office for a term of five years or till attaining the age of 65, whichever is earlier. So, if the Goa Government succumbs to the lobbying and appoints Leena Mehendale who was born on 31st January 1950, the government besides sadly opting for a non Goan, would effectively have her for a very short a tenure of just over a year. Which means
CAMARA MUNICIPAL DE SALSETTE by Joao Barros-Pereira
Friday - Jul 26, 2013
That the heritage building which housed the Camara Municipal de Salsette (1778) might come under the axe makes for sad reading as it is a historic and beautiful building which is an important part of the history of the people of Margao where 23 people were killed by the Portuguese soldiers when they protested against the unfair elections of the city. The people of Margao are indeed proud of this historic building.
WHEN WRONG HANDS ROCK THE CRADLE by Peter Fernandes
Friday - Jul 26, 2013
It is an imperative to recognize bad omens in time, in order to foster better care and upbringing; otherwise, disaster is imminent and inevitable when wrong hands rock the cradle. In recent times, the whole world witnessed the Arab spring, which began perhaps with right earnest to pursue a better future
DON’T WORRY ALWAYS BE HAPPY by Francis Sequeira
Thursday - Jul 25, 2013
There are many situations in life which upset us and make us sad and bereft. Failures, setbacks, others’ achievements, neighbours’ pride our envy, heartbreaks, lack and problems are constantly racking our brains. When relationships become sour the fragrance of love becomes a stench of hatred
Thursday - Jul 25, 2013
I wish to place on record my heartfelt gratitude to the news editor and his team of reporters of your daily, who are the unsung heroes in the awakening of the general public and the main protectors of the fragile ecology and environment of Goa. The reporters especially, who sincerely go the extra mile come rain or shine, covering the site inspections and exposing the violators and their illegal activities such as the man made destruction of ground water table, discharge of pollutants into the rivers, streams
WHERE ARE THEY NOW IN GOA? by A. Veronica Fernandes, Kuwait
Wednesday - Jul 24, 2013
Among the expatriate Goans, Kuwait Goans are known to be more noise making Goans of their power and position in Kuwait because overwhelming majority of them are of hoi-polloi family category. In Kuwait there are innumerable Goan associations and clubs manned by their presidents and other office bearers
