MAPUSA: Bardez residents are on the edge after spate of robberies and other crime during the past 15 days. Three murders and at least three robbery cases has been reported in the taluka in the past few days. While residents live in fear of ruthless robbers, the situation has also given law enforcers a rude jolt.

MARGAO: The price of pao, the loaf of bread the baker delivers every morning, will go up by 1.50 from Monday. The 50 gm loaf will cost 4, up from the existing 2.50. This was decided by the All Goa Association of Bakers at an executive body meeting on Thursday.
Association chairman Peter Fernandes said that the bakers 'who are currently suffering losses' had no option but to increase the price of pao by 1.50.

PANJIM: Giving up its initial reluctance to include Goa region of Western Ghat in the World Heritage Site of UNESCO, Forest Department has finally admitted that Goa along with contiguous forests of Karnataka and Maharashtra, is one of the best potential tiger habitat in this bio- diversity hotspot.
It has been alleged that various governments were dragging their feet on declaration of Western Ghat region as sanctuary for ‘ tiger reserve’ since it would lead to the closure of at least 40 mining leases, 20 of which are active.
